Dutch harpist Remy van Kesteren is known for creating his own world with his compositions; a blend of neo-classical minimal, electronic music, alternative, jazz- and world influences, where the boundaries between genres evaporate. He studied at, among others, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied with the famous harpist Isabelle Moretti. Van Kesteren has won various prizes, including the Nederlandse Muziekprijs. His many awards led to concerts around the world, from Europe to the US, Japan and Africa.
In October 2020, Van Kesteren released his first harp solo album '
an alternative soundtrack to the motion picture The Red Turtle', with the blessings of director of the film Michael Dudok de Wit, who also wrote the liner notes to the record and drew the artwork, including a drawing of Remy's harp. Following his inspirations even further, a new solo album was released in 2023: '
Muses', where songs from a diverse set of artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, and Sibelius are re-interpreted on harp and synthesizer. His first 'official' soundtrack in 2024 '
Mirror Maze' is exemplary for what Van Kesteren's artistry seems to be all about: continuously pushing the boundaries of what his instrument can do, into radically new and hauntingly beautiful musical experiences.
